During our exciting dress up day we explored different materials to try and make a comfortable bed for a princess. We had read the story of The Princess and the Pea as part of our Big Book Literacy time.
We looked at a small pea and set it on the bed. Then we added lots of different materials on top to be mattresses - cotton, plastic, felt, organza and more! Each time we added a mattress we pushed down to see if we could feel the pea. We got to 16 mattresses before we couldn't feel it. The thicker materials such as felt and plastic were much better at acting as a barrier between us and the pea.
