Stevie from Lagan Search and Rescue (LSAR) came to visit us and tell us all about his job. He works for LSAR as a volunteer. All the people who work with him are volunteers as well and have other jobs When they get an emergency call out they have 10 minutes to get to the call.
He told us how they help people in the water, boats in trouble, floods, missing people and pets. He showed us what they had to wear and which life jacket was for which response vehicle. He even let us try them on! He explained the 3 most important things to remember near water
1. Wear a life jacket
2. Always tell someone where you are going
3. Always stay together
We went outside and saw Stevie’s large motor vehicle. It had medical supplies and equipment to help with all types of incidents. We heard the special horn and siren, we saw the flashing lights but then we saw something very exciting!! The vehicle had a snorkel !!! It could go in water using the snorkel - wow!!
